Should I try to obtain a job at my local university?

I am currently employed as a purchaser for a steel fabrication company. I am actually in the position to go far and get paid well if I stayed in this field, however I do not see it as a field where I will be able to have flexible hours and have time with my (future) children. Lately I have been thinking I want to teach at a community college or university. I am most certainly going to obtain my MBA, but if my grades are good and if I can find a suitable program I may want to also earn my Ph.D. I am thinking that since I do not want to stay in the steel fab. business that maybe I should try to get a job at the school, to get my foot in the door. This school has both MBA and Ph.D programs... not the best but not too bad. (University of South Carolina). Do you think this would be a good next step.
